PDP Moves To Fire Taraba Gov

Taraba State Governor Danbaba Suntai
The Peoples Democratic Party has begun the process that may lead to the eventual removal of the Governor of Taraba State, Mr. Danbaba Suntai, from office.
Consequently, the party has inaugurated a seven-man committee on the political situation in the state.
Suntai was involved in a plane crash last October in Yola, Adamawa State.
The governor, his aide-de-camp, chief security officer and three others, sustained severe injuries in the accident.

The governor, a 2011 graduate of the Aviation College in Zaria, piloted the crashed plane.
Since after the accident, the survivor has been overseas receiving medical attention.
However, inaugurating the committee in Abuja on Monday, the PDP’s National Chairman, Dr. Bamanga Tukur, said the party’s National Working Committee set up the team because of happenings in the state.
He listed the committee’s terms of the reference to include finding out and reporting the extent of political harmony or otherwise among the stakeholders in the party in the state, interacting, and establishing the most effective approach to resolving contending issues among them.
The team, he also said would fast track the process of constitutional adherence as “it affects the status of the office of the governor of the state”.
He added, “The committee must ensure that in all practical implication, the PDP Taraba emerges stronger and more united in responding to all the partisan challenges arising thereafter in the state.
“Consider and report any other matter that is in the opinion of the committee, relevant in the resolution of the political condition of the state.”
Members of the committee are Senator Hope Uzodima(chairman), Ahmed Gulak, Shittu Mohammed(former chairman of de-registered Republican Party of Nigeria), Bala Buhari, Prof. Richard King, Mrs. Bolajoko Doherty and Senator Abubakar Garda(secretary).
The committee has two weeks to submit its reports.
Our correspondent reports that the role and cooperation received from the Taraba State acting governor, Alhaji Garba Umar, by the Jonah Jang-led faction of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum might have influenced the inauguration of the committee.
