Osun Govt, Labour End Rift Over Salaries

The rift between the Osun State Government and Labour union over the usage of automation system for the payment of salaries of public workers may have been resolved, following the payment of January and February salaries of the workers through the system.

It was also gathered that the March salaries would also be paid to the workers in a couple of days to allow workers have enough money to celebrate the forthcoming Easter.

A statement signed by the state Commissioner for Finance, Economy Planning and Budget, Dr. Wale Bolorunduro, said the salaries were paid without the state collecting the January Allocation from the Federation Account.

It would be recalled that the January salary payment was disrupted by labour leaders in the state who pulled out of the stakeholders committee set up to monitor the automation of salary.

The labour union’s action also led to the delay in the payment of January salary. The January and February salaries were paid last week while March salary will be paid normally.

According to the commissioner, “the Government of Osun State has cleared all outstanding salaries. The disruption of salary system caused in January by labour union halting the automation payment has become a thing of the past as the government has paid January and February salaries thereby bringing it to date on its deliberate policy of paying salary on or before 26th of each month irrespective of when PDP-led central government pays federal allocation.

The Commissioner urged the civil servants and teachers to reciprocate the gesture of the government by offering quality services to Osun people and to work for the rapid development of the state.

The rift on the usage of automation system in the payment of salary in the state was rejected by the labour union, which insisted that the manual system of payment should be maintained.

The labour leaders stressed that when the process was newly introduced, there were a lot of mix ups by the consultant handling it.
