SITA ignores court ruling, continues operation at Lagos Airport

The company officials declined to comment on the judgment.
The Societe International Telecommunication Aeronautiques, (SITA) on Tuesday continued operation at the International terminal, Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, despite a Lagos High Court order that it should vacate the premises.

SITA was the concessionaire that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) awarded the contract to collect revenues from airline users, after it sacked Maevis Nigeria Ltd. Members of staff of the company were seen carrying out their duties at both the arrival and departure halls of the airport.


Justice Buba of the Federal High Court, Lagos, on Monday, ruled that SITA was wrong to have entered into a contract with FAAN, hence, its contract was invalidated.

The Federal High Court described the agreement between the FAAN and SITA as illegal and ordered the latter to pay N5bn compensation to Maevis.

However, no staff member of SITA was willing to officially comment on the matter.
One of them who spoke to on condition of anonymity, argued that the SITA’s office at the international terminal of the MMA was its implementation office.

Yakubu Dati, the General Manager, Corporate Communications, FAAN, was said to have travelled out of the country on an important assignment.

FAAN had in March 2012 abruptly terminated a-five-year contract it had with Maevis on allegations of fraud.

Before the termination, Maevis was in charge of collecting aeronautic and non-aeronautic revenues for FAAN in Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port-Harcourt Airports.
