Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Resident Doctors Suspend 3 Weeks Strike


Lagos - The Striking Resident Doctors of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi Araba Lagos, today (Tuesday) suspended their three weeks strike for nonpayment of their back backlog salary.
The resident doctors of LUTH embarked on an indefinite strike on September 6, 2013 over the non-payment of about five months’ salary. The situations have paralyzed the activities of the hospital in the past three weeks.
The President of the resident Doctors, Doctor Emeka Ugwu told the news agency of Nigeria that the doctors suspended the strike for the concern they have for life of their patient and in order to forestall further loss of innocent Nigerians.
He said, “We, as resident doctors, constitute a major workforce of the hospital, and if we continue this strike, work will not go on and we want to avoid further loss of lives.”
Despites the fact that most doctors are owned the salary of five months and are also financially incapacitated the strike was suspended for the sake of lives of the patients that will suffer for it.
Dr Emeka said “we decided to suspend the strike in the interest of our patients which we consider paramount. (NAN)
