Centenary celebrations: Lanikpekun chairs sub-sports committee

Renowned Sports Writer, Fabio Lanikpekun has been appointed the chairman of Sports sub-committee of Nigeria's Centenary celebration.

The Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abudullahi inaugurated the committee on Thursday at the Ya'ardua Conference Centre, Abuja.

Other members of the eight-man committee are; Mr. Kunle Solaja, Mr. Kayode Tijani, Mr. Olukayode Thomas, Mr. Ayotunde Adelakun, Mr. Obi Asika, Dr. Simon Ebhojiaye (Secretary) and Dr. (Mrs) Kema Chikwe (Patron)

While congratulating them for their appointments, the Minister enjoined them to bring in their wealth of experience to bear in the discharge of the national assignment.

The Centenary anniversary since the Amalgamation of the Northern Nigeria Protectorate and Colony and Protectorate of Southern Nigeria will begin on 1st day of January 2014.

"As Nigeria celebrates her nationhood, which holds a lot of promise for generations yet unborn, the Sports component of the centennial celebrations must therefore showcase its impact as the rallying pivot for our national unity over the century", Abdullahi stated.

Term of Reference

The term of reference for the subcommittee includes;

1.  To coordinate and implement the sports sector activities of the Centennial Anniversary.

2.  To carry out any other responsibility as deemed fit by the Hon. Minister of Sports/Chairman, NSC towards the Centennial Anniversary celebrations.

While responding on behalf of the Committee members, Lanipekun assured Nigerians that the Committee will perform far above expectations.

He thanked the Sports Ministry for deeming it feat to call them to serve the country at such capacity.
