The
deadly Islamic group called Boko Haram that have been performing their evil act
all these while in the northern part of Nigeria particularly Borno, Yobe and
Adamawa States, where Federal government of Nigeria declared state of emergency
can be said have finally find their root into the South west of Nigeria, as a
suspected member of the sect was arrested in Ogun State.
According to the statement by the
Police in Ogun State on Tuesday, where they confirmed the arrest of one 22-year-old
man, Giraima Suri from Bulunkutu Kasuwa, Maiduguri, Borno State, believed to be
a suspected member of Boko Haram in Isheri-Kara area of Ifo Local Government.
24naijanews.com learnt that the suspect,
Giraima Suri was arrested by detectives acting on a tip-off.
According
to the Police public Relation officer, Muyiwa Adejobi in a statement in Abeokuta
on Tuesday, he said Giraima Suri fled Maiduguri to South West following the
hunt for the sect members by the Joint Task Force JTF as a result of declaration
of State of Emergency in the area.
The
suspect had already confirmed his membership with the Boko Haram according to
Adejobi, a deputy Superintendent of Police.
Adejobi said, “The suspect also
confessed that he participated in the killing of many innocent Nigerians before
the declaration of the state of emergency in three states, including Borno by
the Federal Government.
“The command commends the good
people of Ogun State for their collaboration and sharing of information that
enabled the police to be proactive in preventing crimes and criminality in
the state.
With this development, I think this is a
warning alert to other states in Nigeria to be in watch and everyone in the
community should be vigilant as well. When a suspicious face is observed in a
community, such person should be reported to police without hesitation.
