Hon Omoworare |
Omoworare described the attack as an attempt to plunge the State of Osun into political violence, which is the hallmark of the PDP.
The Senator in a press statement signed by his Media Assistant, Comrade Olatunde Dairo, decried the unprovoked attack on the ACN members, saying that it was an act of cowardice and frustration from an Ile-Ife-born governorship aspirant of the PDP.
He added that the attack was aimed at intimidating and unleashing mayhem on ACN members in Ife zone in preparation to the 2014 governorship election, in a bid to rig the election.
Omoworare, however, charged members of the party to remain calm and law-abiding, even as he urged them to defend themselves within the ambit of the law, whenever anybody attempts to trample on their rights.
Urging the security agents not to lower their guards to forestall further breakdown of law and order in the name of political rivalry, Omoworare also called on the Federal Government and the PDP national leaders to call their members in the state to order.
The Senator said: “Since the days of Chief Bisi Akande as the governor of the State of Osun, through the 2007 elections, the struggle to claim the stolen mandate of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, up till this moment, PDP in the State of Osun has not desisted from violent ways of playing politics. This is their stock in trade.
“We pride ourselves in the ACN as a peaceful party and I appeal to all ACN members to avoid joining the cantankerous elements in their display of immaturity, leave them to their ranting and expression of frustration, as we run a focused and people-oriented government.
“I implore the state government and the ACN to also shun this attempted distraction, while putting the security apparatus of the state in motion and alert and ward off subsequent breaking of the law in the name of political rivalry.
“The PDP leadership and Federal Government should note this ugly development and call their party members to order. We have peace in Ile-Ife and the State of Osun, we are not ready to compromise it.
“The law enforcement agencies should not be reactionary, but proactive to avoid the repeat of this situation. This is the method of politics of certain blocs, they must be nipped in the bud to prevent escalation.”
