Monarch petitions police, alleges threat to life

The traditional ruler of Lejja at Nsukka, Enugu State, has petitioned the police over threat by a politician (names withheld) in the area to assassinate him.

The royal father, Igwe Ochike, said his problem with the politician was engendered by the fact that he wanted equity and justice in the distribution of political offices at Lejja.

In the petition addressed to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Nsukka, copies of which were sent to the state police commissioner, local government chairman and police Area Commander, Igwe Achike, said efforts by Lejja Adhoc Town Union to broker peace between him and the politician proved futile, as the latter’s supporters had been threatening hell and brimstone over his boldness to challenge their principal.

The monarch said: “ I will continue to call for equity and fair play in the even distribution of political offices in Lejja even at the expense of my life”".

“The petition which was written on my behalf dated April 8, 2013 by my lawyer J. K Ezeh would never be withdrawn as it serves as point of information to the police should anything happen to me,” the petition read.
Vanguard gathered that the monarch, a former lawmaker in old Anambra State House of Assembly, and the politician disagreed over nomination of candidates in the two electoral wards of the community in the last local local government elections in the state December 12, 2012.

Contacted on phone, the party chieftain said the traditional ruler was not a politician and should, therefore, exempt himself from politics.

He declined further comments on the allegations of assassination levelled against him by the monarch in his petition to the police.

  1. They are just playing politics, and people should be careful the comment they make. In no distant time they will come to terms.
