Sunshine Stars are the best football club in Nigeria according to the latest club world ranking released by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).
The former CAF Champions League campaigners are ranked 244 in the world ahead of the likes of Russian side CSKA Moscow,
French clubs AS de Saint-Etienne, Evian Thonon Gaillard FC and English Premier League sides West Bromwich Albion FC and Swansea City FC.Sunshine are also ranked 13th in Africa behind the likes of Al-Hilal Omdurman and Espérance Sportive de Tunis who are rated the top two sides on the continent and 74th and 76th respectively on the world stage.
The rankings are based on performance in national championships, continental and inter-continental competitions played between March 1, 2012 and February 28, 2013.
Heartland FC were rated as the second best club in Nigeria. The Imo State-owned team are 24th in Africa and 371st in the world.
Sunshine Stars host Kaduna United in the NPFL opener on March 10. While Heartland FC host Nembe City FC.
