It will be a major embarrassment if Nigeria fails to qualifier for the World Cup

As Senate Backs Ex-Footballers for Board Membership

Looking at the Members of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), you will sometimes ask yourself if those one are really having experiences needed to saddle sports in Nigeria. NFF members should be practical athletes as many will say; however, the Senate on Tuesday, backed a Bill seeking to limit membership of The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) board to ex -footballers.

The Bill was  passed for the second reading sponsored by Senator Ibrahim Gumba Bauchi PDP referring to Senate Committee on Sports for further legislative inputs.

The Bill which is to achieved the grading and development of referees and to ensure that Nigerians are getting involve in International Competitions.

Again, the Bill seeking to ensure that provisions are made for the election of the president to lead the executive committee in contrast to the extent act where the governing body of the Organization is a Board appointed from different Organization. The Senate Sport Committee is therefore to report back in two weeks.

The Senate president, David Mark in his own view, said the problem of football in Nigeria is as a result of selfish interest by the people running it. He attributed the problems in sport to level of politics involved in the Game.

"It will be a major embarrassment if Nigeria fails to qualifier for the World Cup, football unites Nigerians and we have to do what it takes to save football in the country. Government cannot fund football and not be involved and this is what FIFA doesn't want so we need to strike a delicate balance. This Bill needs to be accelerated so that we can remove the gray areas. Government alone cannot run football" Senator David Mark said
