A 28-year-old facebook lover, Kelvin Suru, was on Thursday charged with attempted rape at an Oshodi Magistrates' Court, Lagos.
Suru, who resides at No 11A, Rafiu Crescent, Mafoluku, Oshodi, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and attempted rape.
The prosecution alleged that the accused had on March 13 at a hotel in Oshodi committed the offences.
According to Cpl. Kehinde Olatunde, the accused with one Emmanuel Yoti- still at large- abducted one Miss Uchenna Ojukwu, 22, for the purpose of raping her.
``Suru met Ojukwu, a student of Imo State University, Owerri, on facebook and lied to her that he is a councillor in Lagos.
``The accused invited her to Lagos, promising to foot her transport and other bills.
``Suru also conspired with Yoti to pose as his personal assistant; took the girl to the hotel room that had been booked for her.
``Yoti also led Ojukwu to Suru's room where he attempted to rape her," Olatunde told the court.
Olatunde said that the accused tore Ojukwu’s dress in his desperate bid to rape her.
``When Ojukwu realised that the accused had overpowered her, she screamed and this alerted workers of the hotel, who rescued her," he said.
The prosecutor noted that the offences contravened Sections 144 and 409 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
Suru, however, denied the charges and was granted bail in the sum of N100, 000, with two sureties in like sum. The magistrate, Akeem Fashola, adjourned the case to April 11 for mention.
