2015 Election: Jonathan Seeks Obasanjo Support?


President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday meets with the former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo behind the close door in his Hilltop Mansion. The meeting that seems to be a fencing-mending effort aimed to woo the former president.


Obasanjo in recent time is known with criticism against the present administration in his handling of national issue and Boko Haram Insurgency.

24naijanews learnt that immediately President Jonathan arrived at the former president Obasanjo residential house in Owu Abeokuta, the gates to the expensive and beautiful mansion were shut against other visitors and security outside and along the house were beefed up.

The meeting between Goodluck Jonathan and Olusegun Obasanjo might be for consultations ahead of Jonathan declaration of interest in the 2015 presidential election. 

The president left Obasanjo house after the meeting that lasted one hour thirty minutes to the resident of his spokesman, Dr Reuben Abati to commiserate with him and family for the demise of their mother.

While talking to the press, the president said, “It is true that we saw (former) president Obasanjo in his house because we came to Abeokuta to commiserate with Abati who buried his mother yesterday (Friday). Knowing that Abati’s house is at the backyard of Obasanjo’s house, it will not be good if we come and we did not visit him. Even the man (Obasanjo) himself will not be happy if we don’t visit him. I am like a son to Obasanjo,”

24naijanews gathered that, few minutes President Jonathan left the Former president house, four northern PDP Governors who believed to have scheduled meeting with the former president but stay in undisclosed venue in Abeokuta avoiding president Jonathan perhaps arrived the former President house.  

The four Governors who met with Obasanjo were Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso; Sokoto State Governor, Aliu Wamako; Adamawa Governor, Murtala Nyako and Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido.
Northern PDP Governors visit is believe to be political as speculation already has it that Lamido will be the PDP presidential flag bearer from the north in 2015 election.

The Four Northern PDP Governors meeting with Obasanjo lasted about one hour. Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa state said he and his colleagues were in Abeokuta for “consultation” with the former president Obasanjo on “very important matters.”
