President
Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday meets with the former Nigerian President,
Olusegun Obasanjo behind the close door in his Hilltop Mansion. The meeting
that seems to be a fencing-mending effort aimed to woo the former president.
Obasanjo
in recent time is known with criticism against the present administration in
his handling of national issue and Boko Haram Insurgency.
24naijanews
learnt that immediately President Jonathan arrived at the former president
Obasanjo residential house in Owu Abeokuta, the gates to the expensive and
beautiful mansion were shut against other visitors and security outside and
along the house were beefed up.
The
meeting between Goodluck Jonathan and Olusegun Obasanjo might be for
consultations ahead of Jonathan declaration of interest in the 2015
presidential election.
The
president left Obasanjo house after the meeting that lasted one hour thirty
minutes to the resident of his spokesman, Dr Reuben Abati to commiserate with
him and family for the demise of their mother.
While
talking to the press, the president said, “It is true that we saw (former)
president Obasanjo in his house because we came to Abeokuta to commiserate with
Abati who buried his mother yesterday (Friday). Knowing that Abati’s house is
at the backyard of Obasanjo’s house, it will not be good if we come and we did
not visit him. Even the man (Obasanjo) himself will not be happy if we don’t
visit him. I am like a son to Obasanjo,”
24naijanews
gathered that, few minutes President Jonathan left the Former president house,
four northern PDP Governors who believed to have scheduled meeting with the
former president but stay in undisclosed venue in Abeokuta avoiding president
Jonathan perhaps arrived the former President house.
The four Governors who met with
Obasanjo were Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso; Sokoto State Governor, Aliu
Wamako; Adamawa Governor, Murtala Nyako and Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido.
Northern
PDP Governors visit is believe to be political as speculation already has it
that Lamido will be the PDP presidential flag bearer from the north in 2015
election.
The Four Northern PDP Governors
meeting with Obasanjo lasted about one hour. Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa
state said he and his colleagues were in Abeokuta for “consultation” with the
former president Obasanjo on “very important matters.”
Hmmmm! Am watching....
