Nigeria had over the weekend played a friendly match against Mexico in Houston, Texas where they drew 2-2.
Their arrival however was not without controversy the Nigerian side rejected the arranged transport and accommodation offered by Kenya and instead opted to use their own.
The Nigerians had been booked in the 680 hotel located within Nairobi’s central business district but on arrival opted to go for the La Mada hotel located nearer the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani where the match will take place.
The team also refused to use the bus that had been provided by the officials, preferring to have their luggage carried in it instead.
The much-hyped match has seen Kenya’s national team offered cash incentives for a win which would resuscitate their flagging fortunes in the group.
The Nigerian Football Association was in March accused of mistreating the Kenyan contingent when they flew there for their first leg of the tie.
The federation had agreed to accommodate the Harambee Stars in Calabar where the match was to take place but the Kenyans were instead handed three-star accommodation and a poor football pitch to train on.
This led to an exchange of words between Nigerians and Kenyans on social media prior to the match that resulted in a fortuitous 1-1 draw for the hosts.
Nigerian have since expressed fear of being treated poorly in retaliation, allegations rejected by Kenya officials
Nigeria is currently the leader in the group F with five points while Kenya is trailing with two points after three games.
