David Mark, President of the Nigerian Senate has requested for capital punishment for oil theft due to it's destruction of the nation's economy
Speaking on tuesday in his welcome back speech to the senators who have been on a short holiday

"In the past, I had occasion to comment on the escalating issue of oil theft. It does not need a genius to know that this would have a devastating effect on the economy if not checked.

"We must therefore address it squarely. I will maintain my earlier stance that oil theft should attract capital punishment."

He also said that he is aware that the nation has other problems in areas of economic stability and security, and that he also believed that stability is steadily coming to the three states under state of emergency
He believes that they are making progress and winning the hearts of the citizens with the social amenities they are providing to the people

Excerpts: "As we make progress and win the hearts and minds of the people, government must intensify the provision of social amenities in those areas where normalcy has returned.

"Do we need to revisit the Terrorism Prevention Act to make and prescribe stiffer punishment for offenders? In all our parliamentary actions the welfare of the people must be paramount importance." - Senate President David Mark
