Voters’ Card For SURE P Job: OSUN SPEAKER FAULTS SURE P JOB RACKETEERING

najeem salami
OSUN SPEAKER
Speaker, State House of Assembly of Osun, Rt. Hon. Najeem Salaam has decried how some opposition politicians were collecting voter’s cards from unsuspecting members of he public under the guise of exchanging them for SURE-P jobs, noting that the move was despicable, nauseating, and unacceptable.

In a statement signed by the Media Secretary, Mr. Goke Butikakuro, the Speaker expressed his disgust on the issue while presiding over the proceeding of the parliament in reaction to a matter of importance raised by the lawmaker representing Ifelodun State constituency, Mr. Rasheed Afolabi, who drew the attention of the parliament to the voter’s cards racket allegedly being perpetrated by some members of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ikirun.

Speaker Salaam who traced the SURE-P opportunities to the struggle of the masses against the removal of petroleum subsidy, stressed that the federal government’s programme was thought-out when it became impossible to convince the masses on reasons for the hike in price of premium motor spirit (pms) as a safety net, noting that it was unthinkable that some politicians could be using the collective opportunity to defraud unsuspecting masses.

According to him: “For collecting voter’s cards for SURE P jobs by some desperate politicians was unfathomable in the first place, because the programme is designed for the masses, not partisan politicians or for electoral gain, and the funds used for the purpose is a collective patrimony, which does not belong to any party or an individual. So, it is criminal for some unscrupulous people to start collecting voter’s cards under any guise.”

Speaker Salaam then tasked security agents to be on the look out for some other politicians who indulge in such criminal act, noting that, nothing should be spared in protecting democracy.

Besides, he demands thorough prosecution of the suspects who were caught in the ‘voter’s card for SURE -P job scam, asserting that the intention of the people behind it was to pervert the 2014 governorship election in Osun.
Signed:
Goke Butikakuro
Media Secretary to the Speaker
