Manchester United were Sunday formally crowned champions of the 2012/13 English Premier League after battling to a 2-1 victory over Swansea City in the penultimate game of the season.

Rio Ferdinand chose the best time to end his goal drought as he netted the winning goal for United in their 2-1 comeback win over Swansea City at the Old Trafford.

Ferdinand last scored for United in January 2008 after firing blanks in the last 187 games; but his 87th minute stunner on Sunday gave retiring Sir Alex Ferguson a perfect parting gift from Old Trafford.

After a nervy start, Javier Henardez put United ahead in the 39th minute as the Red Devils kept the advantage going into the second half.

Swansea gave a good fight on resumption of the second half, and were looking like they will spoil the Fergie party when Spaniard Michu scored the equalizer four minutes after resumption.

Brain Landrup’s men pressed more like the three points on offer meant a lot to them but it was United who had the last laugh withFerdinand’s late equaliser.

The victory puts United points haul at 88 with one game left in the season.

Interestingly Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor David Moyes also signed off on a high as he stirred his Everton side to a 2-0 win over West Ham in what was his last home game as the Toffees manager.
Belgium striker Kevin Mirallas scored both goals on Sunday to provide a fitting send-off for the outgoing Everton FC boss.

The sixth successive home league victory against a West Ham side who seemed to have no intention of spoiling the party also guaranteed Everton FC finished above Liverpool for the second successive season and the first time in the top flight since 1937.

Anichebe and teammates will nonetheless be disappointed not fulfilling their Euro ambition as they have no chance of overtaking any of the five teams ahead of them on the log with a game left in the season.
