Supporters of the Maxi Okwu-led faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA,in Anambra state, have defected in their hundreds to the All Progressives Congress,APC.
The move follows the recognition of Victor Umeh as the National Chairman by the Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC.

The members, who had celebrated the vacation of the Federal High Court Awka order against Okwu’s chairmanship, said they later discovered that the vacation did not upturn the Appeal Court’s stay of execution, which reinstated Umeh as National Chairman.

This comes as the state chairmen of Congress for Progressive Change,CPC, Chuba Ikeagwu; All Nigerian Peoples Party,ANPP, Pat Orjiakor, and Action Congress of Nigeria,ACN, Amaechi Obidike, commenced harmonisation of party leaderships from ward to state level.

The pact is geared towards ensuring that the APC wins the 2013 gubernatorial election in the state.
Speaking at the ANPP office in Awka, leader of the ex-APGA members, Ogemdi Ikwuakor, said they were unhappy with the crisis in APGA.

“Presently we are confused as to what to believe and most of us have political ambitions to actualise.

“We have this fear that APGA may not produce candidates for Local Government election and gubernatorial election in Anambra State.

“So, we have to join the APC because, at least, there is no crisis in the party and if these political parties can come together and become one party, it shows that the party will go places”.

Also speaking, ANPP state chairman, Pat Orjiakor, said that the party and its allies were positioning to cause upset in the forthcoming poll.

“We know that 2013 election is not going to be easy, but both the PDP and APGA are in crisis, with several factions here and there, and that is a huge plus for us; and we have the strong conviction that APC has covered about 60 per cent of its journey to the Government House”.

Orjiakor further noted that the new members would be given a level playing ground to participate in any electoral process.

He assured them that the APC remains strong despite its present challenges.-->
