60,000 women die through pregnancy complications annually – NPHCDA


ABUJA—Executive Secretary of National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA, Dr. Ado Mohammed, has said that no fewer than 60,000 Nigerian women die annually from complications in pregnancy.

He spoke when he received an award of excellence confered on him by the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, MHWUN, for his agency’s commitment to efficient health care service delivery in Nigeria.
Ado, in a statement by the Assistant Public Relation Officer ofNPHCDA, Mr. Abubakar Musa, said:  “The agency solicits for more support and cooperation of well meaning Nigerians in collaborating with NPHCDA towards providing better health care service delivery to all Nigerians, especially at the grassroots level.”

He said to achieve this, “all hands must be on deck towards ensuring that Nigeria attains the MDG’s goal 4 & 5, reduction in maternal and child mortality, before 2015.”
