Fire Guts Amosun's Private Residence

A living room in the private residence of the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, was yesterday razed by fire destroying a major part of the building.
The fire, which was said to have started at about 12:30pm, destroyed a room in the building without identifying the cause.
It was believed that the quick intervention of Ogun State Fire Service truck marked OG 122 AO9 which came into the compound saved the day.
While addressing newsmen at the scene of the incident, an elder brother of the governor, Alhaji Abidoye Amosun, who also resides in the building, confirmed the incident but
thanked God that no life was lost to the inferno.
He said the source of the fire could not be identified, saying virtually all the occupants were outside when the incident occurred.
“The room was the one being used by the family and we could not say exactly the source of the fire, but what we knew was that no life was lost and the cost of the properties could not be ascertained,” he said.
Also, fire fighters, members of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigeria Police Force, State Security Service and close friends of the governor battled to contain the fire from spreading to other parts of the building which is situated at Ibara Government Reservation Area, Abeokuta.
Meanwhile, a mild drama ensued when some journalists were seriously beaten and their cameras destroyed while trying to take pictures of the building by the security men attached to the residence.
It took the intervention of the Ogun State Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Yusuph Olaniyonu, and the elder brother of the governor before their cameras were returned to the affected journalists.(thisday)
