Seth MacFarlane, the comedic mastermind behind Family Guy, American Dad and Ted will join The Amazing Spider-Man beauty, Emma Stone to announce the Oscar nominations on Thursday January 10, 2013.

MacFarlane and Stone will be announcing the Oscar nominations on Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. ET as the 85th Annual Academy Awards holds on Sunday, February 24, 2013.

MacFarlane is the first Oscars host to also announce the nominations in 40 years. The last to do both was Charlton Heston (who has made an appearance on “Family Guy” at least once) back in 1972.

This sudden break in tradition makes for yet another sign that this year’s Oscars show is set to be one of the funniest and most innovative ceremonies in years. Buzz is building and expectations are high thanks not only to a younger, hipper funnyman like MacFarlane hosting but also to the recently announced James Bond tribute, which might serve as a sufficient consolation prize if “Skyfall” ends up not scoring any noms.

Emma Stone’s involvement in the announcements is also a plus, as she deserves her own Oscars hosting gig sometime in the near future. Her rapport with Ben Stiller as they presented the Best Visual Effects Oscar at last year’s ceremony was one of the few highlights of a rather boring show.
